Citizen of the Year!
GQ Magazine could not have made a better choice in selecting Colin Kaepernick for its honor.
The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback decision to kneel during the national anthem last season to bring awareness to racism and injustice, has forced America into a much needed discourse on these issues.
Gentlemen’s Quarterly smartly recognizes Kaepernick’s courage and conviction. It opens its feature on the 29-year-old, former Nevada star saying:
“He’s been vilified by millions and locked out of the NFL—all because he took a knee to protest police brutality. But Colin Kaepernick’s determined stand puts him in rare company in sports history: Muhammad Ali, Jackie Robinson—athletes who risked everything to make a difference.”
Kaepernick has become the standard bearer for the modern day activist-athlete. His willingness to stand strong in his beliefs, and literally sacrifice his career, and spur a national movement, transcends anything he accomplished on the football field. Click here to read entire GQ feature.
