I am Australian, but we suffer from blind patriotism here too. Of course fucking not. Think about what you say before you say it, you might save a life. !” could once more be heard outside the White House, and the patriotism that gripped our nation a decade before returned as President Obama seemed to call an end to the War on Terror.

Whatever his particular motives were, it would appear that Abdulazeez was attacking America itself.
No, this problem applied to our national morale, our collective belief that what America did in this world was, on the whole, right, and it came to be symbolized by people shouting “Merica” instead of “America”. But if you feel the need to continue and try to belittle me go ahead, with a blog of 3k+ followers, you get used to haters . See this is why real life and the internet should never try to mix. Just because someone uses and understands the internet doesn’t make them a neanderthal (are you 80). And of course, people are now protesting the decision. And I never said it didn’t *exist*. Pick a side and stick to it. And yet, as with all terms and phrases, there’s a hidden meaning behind this formulation of the word America, a cultural explanation harkening back to the heightened form of patriotism experienced in the years following 9/11.
Lots of community members found the ban on Merica Day to be unpatriotic, which is weird because the administrators banned it because they found the word “merica” to be unpatriotic. Why would knowing the celebrity my kid niece has a crush on mean anything? I don’t know that I would have replaced it with America Day, but I have never, ever seen someone use “‘Merica” or “‘Murica” respectfully. It’s almost always used by people who consider themselves to be liberal, educated and/or enlightened, and almost always to make fun of people who they do not consider to be liberal, educated and/or enlightened. You Could Win One Of Three $600 Murad Skin Care Prize Packs! Yes, they are being paid, but if it was OH SO disrespectful in their eyes, then they would not participate, right? But thanks for proving my point, those who aren’t a part of internet culture will never understand it. NOT Chris Colfer!!! This problem would only be exacerbated as our enemy in the war carrying its name, Terror, seemed to continue on undaunted as each year passed. oh oh oh hold the fucking phone!! you are more than a little bit insane.
It only makes a difference here because like I said the internet has it’s own language that “outsiders” just can’t understand, it’s like a whole ‘nother culture, which is why it was a bad idea for them to even TRY for a “Merica Day”, Let me give you an example, “I may be a ship glutton but I still only have 5 true OTPs (I say “true” because I have fandom OTPs like Sterek but that’s different), which are, in order, Klaine, Spirk, Merthur, and Dryler PLUS my IRL OTP which is CrissColfer, but I believe they are in a league of their own, you know because RP. Hon, you are talking a whole heap of crap that means absolutely nothing to anybody outside of a dimly lit office with a wifi connection. I would suggest that the 'Merica meme is purposely meant to be disrespectful to the CURRENT (not the past or original intended state as prescribed by our founding fathers) state of America and the blind patriots who find the state of our country as acceptable. A heavily armed man by the name of Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez murders five servicemen in Chattanooga, Tennessee. No, not virtual get laid. Chill. This was a naturalized U.S. citizen attacking his own country, a path that many have sadly taken in the years since 9/11. ANYWAY, back to the flip’n point, I’m not comparing Chris Colfer or CrissColfer or Star Trek or ANY fandom to Italy, this is not about FANDOMS, I don’t know how you came up with that… This is about the INTERNET, and how people who don’t really use the internet don’t understand all the things that come from it, and just like Italy or Scotland or Canada, it has it’s own culture, is it equivalent to the taj mahal? Merica is a slang term that is often used in a negative, stereotypical way to describe life in the United States. I love the country I live in. I have to admit some of those memes are hilarious, but I can’t help seeing it as a shortcut, or a trendy way of being patriotic. Anonymous Mom Submissions – Terms & Conditions.
