He can't wait to instate the age-old tradition in C-Average School: The biggest nerd is nominated for class president--and wins. Schooled is a book about a teenage boy named Capricorn Anderson who doesn't know very much about the outside world. Capricorn Anderson was a homeschooled hippie teenager living with his grandmother... Until she had to take a long surgery. This is such a GOOD young adult book, unique in plot, and excellently portrayed and crafted, a book to make readers of all ages less materialistic and more caring and centred on the best values. I had absolutely no idea what the book was about until I actually got it, and it turned out a whole lot better than I thought it would be. Or the biggest punchline? But as Cap, who has never used a phone or handled money before in his life, struggles to learn the ropes, the peo. I read a few chapters myself and I like the way the story is told through different character's perspectives. His grandmother, Rain, the last of the true believers, is the only person Cap really knows. When Rain is injured, Cap must attend a public middle school, but he is not remotely prepared for life in the 21st century, as he has never seen a TV or a cell phone. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. This book will appeal to both boys and girls, I think.Great book! He is currently staying with Mrs. Donelly and her daughter Sophie. But when his granny has a little mishap and he has to live in the city and go to a local public school,he is gonna have to face the real world and the new things from it. He is easily confused by the strange, foreign environment of middle school! Its very unique. At first all the kids treat "Cap" terribly because he is so different. Schooled is basically about a thirteen-year-old hippie who goes to a public school for the first time after being home-schooled by his grandmother until she's sent to the hospital due to a bad fall. How will he la. Although it kept me confused at times but overall it was a pretty good book. This book is a true, extreme fish-out-of-water tale of Capricorn Anderson, raised on a commune by his hippie grandmother, where he is homeschooled and, really, indoctrinated. You have to read the book to find out. No matter where your from,or who you are, always stay true to yourself. I loved this book even though it wasn't what I was looking for. He had never even heard of a wedgie. The only problem is that the narrative is centered on younger kids, so they may feel like it's too immature for them. This has been one interesting book to read. Welcome back. But Gordon Korman is one of favorite authors, so I gave it a try. Great read for parents n kids of middle schoolers. Excuse me? High school will not be pretty for the poor kid. Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2018. I enjoyed how it all played out with how he was being raised and homeschooled and how he was trying to adjust to traditional schooling after Rain's accident. Schooled is a 2007 children's novel by Gordon Korman. Please try again. This has been one interesting book to read. I truly enjoy reading Korman's books, especially titles such as: "No More Dead Dogs," "Swindle," "Son of the Mob," and "Born to Rock." Need another excuse to treat yourself to a new book this week? He'd never tasted a pizza. Korman wrote his first book, "This Can't be Happening at Macdonald Hall", when he was 12 years old, for a coach who suddenly found himself teaching 7th grade English. These books were part of a gift from me and I'm disappointed that they were defective. Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2020. I love this book! I thought maybe it was just my book, but my students said theirs was also very dark at the bottom of some of the pages. He has been raised by his grandmother, a leftover hippi with definite ideas about right and wrong, and homeschooled on a ranch in the middle of nowhere. He has been raised by his grandmother, a leftover hippi with definite ideas about right and wrong, and homeschooled on a ranch in the middle of nowhere. So when Cap becomes president, he is more puzzled than ever. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Unable to add item to List. I thought the story was charming, touching and thought-provoking. Korman also used wonderful strategies to add in humor, excitement, and different POVs! A fun book! [Cap spends the School's entire Student activity fund by donating it to charity and has others plan the Halloween dance for him. When Rain (his grandmother) is injured, Cap spends six weeks at a publich middle school, where he is immediately elected class president-- a dubious honor always given to the biggest loser. aaaa. He brings the story to life by engaging opposites characters to throw life into a pendulum of good/bad outcomes. Navigating middle school has never been more entertaining! But, that all stops once everyone realizes that Cap is a much better person than the rest of them. But I really think we all had a lot right back then. I also liked that each chapter came from another character's perspective. He would have to go to a public school filled with kids trying to torment him.Of course, on the other hand, Cap Anderson is actually a pretty smart kid... Read this hilarious book filled with friends, bullies, mistakes, and more! Schooled is basically about a thirteen-year-old hippie who goes to a public school for the first time after being home-schooled by his grandmother until she's sent to the hospital due to a bad fall.
