Comedian Michelle Wolf searing take-down of Donald Trump and the current White House at the annual Washington Correspondent’s dinner was considered off-color by some, and out of the norm.
As you may know, the Correspondent’s dinner is an annual event put on by the Washington press corps. It honors noted colleagues and provides scholarships for up and coming journalists . Part of the tradition is an appearance by the current president, who gets to poke fun at the men and women who cover his administration. In addition, a comedian will take some time out to roast the politicians, president and the media.
Past presidents like Barack Obama and George W. Bush have attended the dinner, Not surprisingly; Trump has refused to take part.
However, that didn’t stop Wolf from ripping on Trump, the most hostile with some of her best material.
What she said was fine when you consider how the current president conducts himself. Trump has spent much of his time in office, and seemingly all of his life, insulting people and nation’s of people. He is the most hostile, angry, dishonest and ignorant president in the nations history. He surrounds himself with snarky incompetents who lie as fluently as he does.
Let’s remember this is the same man who has admitted to sexually assaulting women, mocked a disable journalist, and attacked the looks of other women. He lied his way into office, riding the wave of racial hatred by questioning the birthplace of the president.
It is a joke to think that Trump or his people believe they deserve respect that they offer no one and have not earned. You can’t have a normal correspondent’s dinner when you have an abnormal man in the White House.
Comedian Dave Chappelle thinks that Wolf did her job, and did it well.
“I don’t know who those people think they are that she can’t say that to them because they offend people all the time,” he told PBS NewsHour. “For many people, it’s cathartic to watch that woman speak truth to power like that.”
