(Editors Note: This is a repost of an article appearing in the Baton Rouge Advocate newspaper regarding a fund raising effort on behalf of Devon Gales, who was injured in last Saturday’s game against the University of Georgia.)
Southern athletics and the Southern University System Foundation have created a fund to help injured Jaguars football player Devon Gales and his family with medical expenses.
Gales, a redshirt sophomore wide receiver who played at Central High School, suffered a severe spinal injury while blocking on a third-quarter kickoff return during a 48-6 loss at Georgia on Saturday. He underwent successful surgery Sunday at Athens Regional Medical Center and remains in the care of doctors there.
The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/1FB2kFZ ) the groups launched the Devon Gales Fund on Monday. Donations can be made by visiting the webpage at www.netcommunity.sus.edu/the-devon-gales-fund .
