Please tune in tonight from 10-11 p.m. for ‘The African-American Athlete’ radio show. Call in at 213-943-3407. www.blogtalkradio.com/talk2mesportsradio3 is the internet address. Our guest tonight will be Joe ‘747’ Adams, the former Tennessee State University All-American, who played in the NFL for the San Francisco 49ers.
Adams’ passed for 8,653 yards during his career (1977-80) at TSU, a record that stood 34 years. His 75 career touchdown passes are still the most in school history. Those numbers were stunning for that era of NCAA football, when the running game was the featured mode of attack at most schools.
Adams played one year for the 49ers in 1981, before playing the next three seasons in the Canadian Football League. Adams, and TSU coaching great Joe Gilliam, are finalists induction into the Black College Football Hall of Fame in Ferbruary.
Joe Adams held several NCAA passing records during his career at Tennessee State University.
