Cam Newton was named the 2015 MVP of the National Football League today, by the Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA).
Newton becomes the first African-American quarterback to win the award solo. In 1995 Steve McNair shared the award with Peyton Manning. In 1998, Randall Cunningham split the award with Terrell Davis.
Newton had a superb regular season, passing for 35 touchdowns, and rushing for another 10 in leading the Panthers to a 15-1 record. They will host Arizona on Sunday for the NFC title.
