Cam Newton made it a clean sweep Saturday night. The Carolina Panthers quarterback was named the 2015 Most Valuable Player in the National Football League.
Earlier, Newton was awarded the MVP award by the Pro Football Writers of America.
Newton’s award has historical significance. He is the first African-American quarterback to capture the award, solo.
In 1998, Minnesota’s Randall Cunningham shared the award with Denver’s Terrell Davis. In 2003, Tennessee’s Steve McNair shared the award with Indianapolis’ Peyton Manning, who will be the opposing quarterback Sunday when the Panthers and Broncos meet in Super Bowl 50.
