The tragic, utterly needless, shooting death of Philando Castile by a scared, incompetent, police officer in suburban Minneapolis last year is the latest example of how deadly even a common traffic stop can become if you are black.
The subsequent trial of officer Jeronimo Yanez, the man who fired seven shots into the car that included Castile, his girl friend, and a 4-year-old, is the latest example of how black lives do not matter to many people.
Last Friday Yanez was acquitted of all charges in the shooting that took place in July of last year. He was charged with second-degree manslaughter, and endangering safety by discharging his firearm.
But all you have to do is look at the dashcam video, and it illustrates how Yanez panicked, and how his indifference cost Castile his life. There is no way this would have happened if that exact scenario played out, and the occupants were white.
