D.C. based writer Dave McKenna and Warren Williams Jr. were guests on “In And Out Of Sports’, hosted by D.C. talk show legend Butch McAdams.
The topic of the show was a column penned by McKenna that chronicled the 1954 journey of Elgin Baylor to the College of Idaho, located in the nearly all-white town of Caldwell, Idaho.
Yes, before Baylor went on to star at Seattle, and later become an NBA legend, he played college basketball in Idaho.
Despite being a prodigious basketball prodigy in high school, Baylor had little college options in 1954. So, when he got the change to join his childhood friend, ‘W.W.’ Williams, Baylor left D.C. for Idaho.
Butch, W.W.’s son, William, and McKenna discussed Baylor’s journey to Idaho and the rich history of basketball in the DMV.
