Since we started in July, more than 500,000 people have visited the page, and enjoyed the content.
And for that, I can give you a heartfelt thanks, for your support.
Your interest tells me there is a niche for content that impacts the African-American community.
You want to know about our HBCUs, the pioneers of the past, and you want to have a platform to discuss issues of today, which for African-Americans, can spin from the playing field to the issues of the community in an instant.
The African-American Athlete page strives to be a sight where you will find content that celebrates all athletics, and particularly, the accomplishments of African-American Athletics.
You will see from time to time in the comments readers talking about how this site is racist, simply because it is called ‘The African-American Athlete’.
Of course, nothing could be further from the truth. Men and women of all races, creeds and colors are welcomed, as are all their comments, critical or not.
The one thing I can say to those who find the page, or the goal of the page offensive, you are welcome to come and broaden your horizons, thicken your skin, and learn tolerance of different views here with us ….or not.
Heading into 2016 we will continue to address issues of athletics, society and even politics. We will examine how these things impact the African-American community, and its our athletes. Both here, and on our radio show (The African-American Athlete) we will discuss, inform, and exchange ideas. Please be sure to check out, or join The African-American Athlete talk show Tuesday’s 10-11 p.m. (EST), on the Talk2MeSports radio network.
Finally, I again must tell you how much I appreciate your support of the African-American Athlete page. I hope you will continue to visit in 2016.
I wish you, and your family and friends a blessed and prosperous 2016!
