White’s music, and the EWF, has meant so much to so many people. And that is why we at The African-American Athlete are going to celebrate their music, and White’s life, every chance we get.
Their influence on HBCU sports is probably something we haven’t thought about, simply because we were too busy enjoying the music. But the ‘Elements’ were always there, from the pep band in the stands, to our sound systems at football tailgates, and the rides to and from the games.
And, of course, how many HBCU halftime shows have we seen over the years that included a tune from the elements of the universe?
Thanks to Charles Bishop, a reader of The African-American Athlete, for sending this clip of Jackson State University’s magnificent ‘Sonic Boom of the South’ Marching band, and their rendition of Earth Wind and Fire’s, ‘Brazilian Rhyme’. You keep sending us classic EWF tunes, and we will keep posting them. Enjoy….
