Pro Football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe has used his role on Fox Sport’s Undisputed to build a reputation for delivering thoughtful, truthful, insights on social issues in America, in particularly race. He did it again recently when he looked at a series of tweets from Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant on the failures of the black community.
Sharpe gently scolds Bryant, saying his heart is in the right place, but his lack of knowledge and experience doesn’t give him the insight needed on the subject.
Sharpe is one of the best high profile athletes when it comes to addressing issues of the black community. It is no doubt that his experience of growing up poor in a household raised by his grandmother, and attending an HBCU (Savannah State), help him understand the issue better.
