Lawrence Phillips, the No. 6 overall pick of the 1996 NFL draft by the St. Louis Rams, has died in a California prison. Phillips was serving 31 years for assaulting his former girl friend, and hitting three teenagers with his car. Recently, Phillips was a suspect in the strangulation death of his cellmate. Reports say his death was a suicide.
It is a sad ending to a life in which a young man had a talent for running a football, but problems living his life. Linked below is a highlight package from his days at Nebraska.
