The most powerful statement of Sunday’s day of protest and unity in in the National Football League was made by a 97-year-old man.
John Middlemas, never played in the NFL, but he did something far more significant. The Willard, Mo. resident fought in World War II, and he understands that he literally put his life on the line for people in America to enjoy freedom of speech, and the freedom to protest.
“My grandpa is a 97 year-old WWII vet & Missouri farmer who wanted to join (with) those who #Takeaknee: ‘those kids have every right to protest,'” said his grandson, Brennan Gilmore, who posted a picture of Mr. Middlemas kneeling on Twitter.
Mr. Middlemas clearly isn’t one to hold back his opinions, and he thinks the man who currently lives in the White House has a “garbage mouth.”
Those who know Mr. Middlemas are not surprised by his stance. He has been active in civil rights and social justice issues his entire life. For more on MR. Middlemas click here.
