The late Richard Pryor, the brilliant, crown prince of comedy, told us the truth about the relationship between police and blacks years ago. We laughed, but we only did that to keep from crying, because we knew it to be the truth.
The fact the policemen who were responsible for the death of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge in 2016 walk free is the latest indignity, coupled with the shooting of Stephon Clark in Sacramento illustrates the peril the black community faces when encountering police.
Remember Daniel Holtzclaw, the Oklahoma cop who raped black women? He did it because he knew he could do it. He felt these women’s lives didn’t have enough worth for people to care. Of course, he didn’t realize the strength of black women, no matter their state in life.
Rest In Peace to all the black brothers and sisters who have been victims of police violence. Check out this powerful video featuring Pryor. It is as pertinent today as it was when he recorded it more than 40 years ago.
