Andre Berto couldn’t hit Floyd Mayweather in the ring, and now the jabs he is throwing in the aftermath of his blowout loss are missing, too. Berto, who barely won a round in the fight, which was  an easy unanimous decision for Mayweather, accused the champion of running and avoiding exchanges.

“I didn’t know I was gonna have to wear track shoes. Berto told TMZ Sports “I had to do a lot of chasing. That’s him, man. He runs around, he holds you, he does all that type of [stuff], but everybody can see I really gave him a fight.”

Of course, saying something like that makes Berto seem totally clueless.  Geez, hadn’t he watched Mayweather fight before?  Mayweather did to Berto what he has done to all of his opponents on his way to compiling a perfect, 49-0 record.  He kept moving, used his great defensive skills, and landed just enough punches to win rounds.  I guess Berto had to try and say something to save face after getting his ass whipped so soundly.

I understand this may be a style that Berto, and a lot of fans for that matter, don’t like.  However, it is what it is with Mayweather, and it is impossible to argue against the results.

Mayweather  says it is the final fight of his career.  If so, it was an illustrious career, and he is in the conversation as one of the best ever.  At 38, he may be done.  But the allure of the limelight, and cash, have brought plenty of great fighters back into the ring. Don’t be  surprised that if  some point it doesn’t lure Mayweather back into the ring.
