He is taking over the program for Jay Hopson, who moved on to become the head coach at Southern Mississippi. McNair worked as an assistant coach for the Braves last season. The Braves won the SWAC title, and lost in a thriller to North Carolina A&T in the Celebration Bowl. McNair was serving as the interim coach before being officially named head coach.
“It means a lot to me,” said McNair, speaking with the Jackson Clarion-Ledger. “Me and my family, we all played football here. Just being able to come back and be the leader of this program means a lot to me. Everybody is going to pitch in and do what it takes to keep this team where it’s at.”
