It is disgusting to see some of the things that happen when black people interact with the police. Yet, thanks to the cellphones, black people are finally getting to tell the world about a fact of life that has existed for decades in black communities around the country.
The latest example of this occurred on Monday (April 10) in Sacramento, Calif., when black man, Nandi Cain, was walking down the street and minding his own business, is stopped by a Sacramento Police Officer. After a verbal confrontation, the officer knocked Cain down to the pavement, and struck him repeatedly.
The officer said he stopped Nandi because he was jaywalking. Yes, jaywalking. But there is no doubt in my mind that this officer stopped the man because he was black. Nandi was arrested, and later released. The officer has been suspended with pay.
I am sure there will be some people who say all Nandi had to do is comply with the police. But these are people who don’t understand how it feels to be targeted for absolutely no reason at all other than being black.
Today United Airlines decided to pay every passenger who witnessed the violent mistreatment of a fellow airlines passenger who was dragged off a plane. United acknowledged the trauma suffered by the fellow passengers. In this case listen to the third video of two women as they witness this event. They are emotionally distraught. In no instance are the unwitting witnesses to these frightening violent events compensated for their trauma.
I have linked three videos. The first is a local news report. The second video gives you a clue of how this emotionally effected those witnessing it. The third video includes the full police dash cam, which clearly shows Nandi minding his business.
