Serena Williams’ victory at the Wimbledon championship is her 22nd major title.
Susan Mullane-USA TODAY SportsSerena Williams defeated Angelique Kerber  of Germany Saturday morning to capture the 2016 Wimbledon title. Williams, moving smoothly, and delivering sizzling returns, won 7-5, 6-3.  She won her sixth game of the first set in spectacular fashion, finishing off with three consecutive aces. The victory was her seventh Wimbledon title.

Kerber, an outstanding player in her on right, had defeated Venus Williams in the semifinals, and beat Serena for the Australian Open title earlier in the year. She actually played well during the match, but Serena’s mastery was simply too much.

It is clear that when Serena is playing like she did against Kerber, no one can beat her. Serena, 34, now has 22 major titles in her illustrious career, tied with Steffi Graff as the most in the open history.

Later in the day, Serena joined her sister Venus to win the Wimbledon Doubles title. It was their sixth Wimbledon title, and they are an amazing 14-0 in major doubles championships.
