Tony Finau had a choice to make after graduating high school in Salt Lake City, Utah.. Should he continue his basketball career in college, and perhaps become a future NBA player like his cousin, Jabri Parker, of the Milwaukee Bucks? Or, should he  pursue a  professional golfer?

Finau chose golf, and it seems to be a good choice. The 25-year-old rookie, who is having strong  season on the Tour, is in the mix at the PGA Championship. Finau is 7-under-par through 13 holes of the second round of the PGA Championship. He is two shots out of the lead. Play was suspended on Friday due to inclement weather, and will resume Saturday morning. Finau is one of the new generation of players, strong and athletic. Checking in at 6-foot-4, Finau hits the ball a mile. He  has earned more than  $1,000,000  so far this season, with  two, top ten finishes.

Fans of the Golf Channel may remember Finau as a contestant on its Big Break” series.  Finau certainly has the athletic bloodlines working in his favor. In addition to Parker,  Haloti Ngata of the Detroit Lions, is a cousin, as is former New York Jets player Sione “Bo” Po’uha.

Here is a little more about the long-knocking rookie.
