Colin Kaepernick will probably never play another game in the National Football League. But he is going to be remembered far beyond all of his accomplishments on the football field. Kaepernick’s decision to kneel during the playing of the national anthem before games has started a movement that is only getting bigger and stronger.
Members of the Vanderbilt Univeristy women’s basketball team kneeled during the anthem before the start of their exhibition game with Marian University Sunday at Memorial gymnasium in Nashville. The athletes were not available to comment on their decision to kneel following the game. But there are a myriad of reasons for their demonstration when you consider the state of America.
After all, the current president is a racist and a misogynist, and his rhetoric has split the nation. An example of the racist president’s hatred is seen in the fact he did not extend an invitation to the South Carolina women’s basketball team, who won the NCAA title last year.
You should not be surprised to learn the Gamecocks are coached by Dawn Staley, who is black. A black coach and a women’s team? You know he wants no dealing with them. Of course, Staley and the Gamecocks would probably have turned down the invitation, anyway.
